Restoration Painting

Incredibly, a year has passed since my last post.  This was partly due to honouring clients request not to show any pictures, so as not to spoil the surprise.  And partly because I prefer painting to posting, and simply got out of the habit.

A few people have asked to see what I have been up to over the last few months, and as we approach 2014 it seemed an ideal time to show you.

This painting was very badly vandalised, the marks you can see on the surface, were actually tears and gaping holes where it had been cut through with a knife and although the canvas had been repaired, the damage was such, that any restoration, no matter how skilfull, would inevitably show.  My part in it's restoration began once the canvas had been repaired, as shown below.  It was very difficult to match the colours as closely as possible to the original but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
